Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologists Examination, every year, to recruit eligible candidates to the post of Geologist, Geophysicist and Chemist in Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines and Junior Hydrogeologist in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources. UPSC Geologist Exam Pattern 2025- Highlights

  • In the prelims exam, there will be negative marking for wrong answers .
  • Candidates should use only the international form of Indian numerals (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.) while answering questions.
  • It is suggested to mark/write the papers in their own hand.
  • Calculators, smart watches are not allowed for answering Objective Type Papers
  • The total marks for prelims and main exam is 400 and 600, respectively.
  • The main examination will be of conventional type while the prelims is the objective type paper.

UPSC Geologist Exam Pattern 2025- Important Points

  • The examination will contain the Conventional type questions.
  • All Question papers will be set in English language, only and candidates have to answer each question in English.
  • Candidates who have opted for both the posts of Geologist and Jr. Hydrogeologist will be required to appear in all the subjects mentioned against Categories 1 and 4 above
  • If any candidate failed to appear in any one or more of the above papers, meant for a written examination for selection to the post of Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist, their candidature shall be rejected and part of written examination appeared by him/her shall not be evaluated.
