GATE Eligibility Criteria 2026– IIT Guwahati has released the complete eligibility criteria for GATE 2026. Aspirants should carefully check the complete GATE 2026 eligibility criteria before filling the GATE application form. GATE exam eligibility 2026 contains minimum age limit, education qualification, nationality and more. Graduate candidates of any age can apply for GATE exam as per the GATE eligibility. Candidates who won’t satisfy the GATE eligibility criteria will not be able to submit the applications. In this article, we are providing the details for the GATE 2026 eligibility criteria required to be fulfilled for the exam.

GATE, also known as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, will be held on February 7, 8, 14 and 15, 2026. Without being eligible for the GATE Exam, the candidates will not be considered for the exam. It is necessary for the candidates to fulfill all the conditions otherwise they will not be considered eligible. 

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2026

GATE 2026 Age Limit– There is no age limit to take GATE 2026 Examination.

Nationality- According to the GATE exam eligibility 2026, candidates of Indian nationality are eligibility for the exam. Aspirants from abroad can also apply for GATE exam.

GATE Eligibility 2026- Educational Qualification

All the conditions of GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria that must be fulfilled by the candidates are provided below:

If the candidate fulfills all these conditions, then only they must fill and submit their application form. If even a single condition of GATE eligibility criteria is left unfulfilled, then their application will not be accepted.

Before submitting their application, candidates are strongly encouraged to verify that they meet the GATE 2026 eligibility criteria. Aspirants who are in their 3rd year or higher of any UG degree course or those who have completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities are eligible to take the GATE 2026 exam.In addition, several Professional Societies and Institutions offer exams in various engineering disciplines, and certifications from these societies may also be considered for eligibility. Some of these societies include:

  • The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
  • The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
  • The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
  • The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), including Polymer and Environmental Groups
  • The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
  • The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)

Candidates holding certifications from any of these professional societies must ensure that the examinations conducted by them are recognized as equivalent to a B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Planning by the Ministry of Education (MoE), AICTE, UGC, or UPSC.For candidates who have obtained or are pursuing their qualifying degree from outside India, they must either be in their 3rd year or higher of study or have completed a Bachelor’s degree (minimum three years duration) in fields such as Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities.If candidates meet any of these conditions, then they are eligible to apply for GATE 2026.
