IOQM Results- Normalisation Process

The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) 2025 was held in two sessions. To provide fair result and transparency, a normalization process will be followed:

  • The average score of students who appeared on September 7 will be used as the reference point.
  • The average for each exam date will be calculated based on all students who wrote the exam on that date. This is done only to compare the two sessions, not the regions.
  • Scores of students from the September 28 exam will be adjusted (scaled up) so their average matches the average of the September 7 exam.
  • Scores of candidates who wrote the exam on September 7 will remain unchanged.
  • The final decisions regarding National Certificates, Regional Certificates, and RMO selection will be based on these normalized scores.

This normalization is especially important for awarding National Certificates and for JNV and KV regions (Region Codes 31 and 32) where students appeared in both sessions. For other regions, since Regional Certificates and RMO selections are decided region-wise, the effect of normalization will be minimal.

The idea is to make sure that no student is at a disadvantage because of the exam session they attended.

Example:

  • Average score on Sept 7 = 40
  • Average score on Sept 28 = 32
  • Scaling factor = 40 ÷ 32 = 1.25
  • A student scoring 48 on Sept 28 will get a normalized score of 48 × 1.25 = 60.
  • Scores from Sept 7 will stay the same.
