How is the CAT 2025 Percentile Calculated?
The CAT percentile represents a candidate’s rank relative to other test takers. To calculate the CAT percentile, the process begins by determining each candidate’s raw scores, based on the CAT marking scheme:
- 3 marks are awarded for each correct answer.
- 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer.
- No marks are deducted for wrong answers in non-MCQ type questions.
Once the raw scores are calculated, the percentile is derived through a multi-step process. Here’s how the CAT 2025 result is calculated:
- Raw Scores Calculation:- Each candidate’s score is based on the number of correct and incorrect answers. +3 marks are awarded for every correct answer, and -1 mark is subtracted for each incorrect answer.
- Normalization of Scores:- After calculating the raw scores for each section and the overall test, these scores are normalized to account for variations across different test sessions, resulting in a scaled score.
- Conversion to Percentile:- The normalized scores are then converted into percentiles, which are displayed in the candidate’s CAT scorecard.
This process ensures that the percentile reflects the candidate’s performance relative to others in the exam.
What After the CAT Result 2025?
Once the CAT 2025 results are declared, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will begin shortlisting candidates for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. The institutes will set individual CAT cut-off scores, and candidates who meet the minimum requirements will be eligible to participate in the next stages. These shortlisted candidates must complete an online form on the official IIM website, based on the IIMs they selected during their CAT 2025 application. It’s essential to submit the form within the specified deadline to be considered.
The selection process will take into account the candidate’s CAT score along with their academic performance (Class 10 and 12 marks). Following this, the IIMs will issue the MBA/PGP shortlist in January 2026. WAT/PI rounds will take place in March and April, with final results expected by May 2026.
The final selection for the 2026-2028 MBA/PGP batch will be based on a variety of factors, including the CAT 2025 score, academic background, work experience, academic and gender diversity, and performance in the WAT/PI.
