UPSC IAS Selection Process 2022– UPSC shortlist eligible candidates for final recruitment after evaluating candidate’s performance in the selection process of UPSC IAS 2022. There are 3 stages in UPSC IAS 2022 selection process that are Prelims, Main, and Interview. UPSC has released the IAS exam date 2022 mentioning the dates for each stage UPSC selection process 2022. Based on the marks and rank obtained by the candidates in IAS 2022 exam, candidates will receive suitable post and services.

UPSC will decide the final IAS cut off marks based on the number of vacancies, difficulty level of the exam, number of candidates appeared, highest marks secured. Considering those marks, only limited number of candidates will be selected. Below is the IAS exam pattern and other details related to IAS 2022 selection process

UPSC IAS Selection Process 2022

There will be 3 stages of UPSC selection process 2022. After filling the IAS application form, candidates will have to appear for the stage 1 i.e. prelims examination. 

  • Candidates who will declared qualified in IAS prelims result will be eligible to appear for UPSC Main exam.
  • UPSC will hold the IAS Mains 2022 on September 16, 2022. To get selected for the next level pf UPSC selection process, candidates have to qualify the main examination with minimum IAS Cut Off Marks.
  • IAS Interview round is the last stage of UPSC selection process. The list of selected candidates will be issued in February as UPSC Main results.
  • Final merit list of candidates will be released in April / May after evaluation the marks of candidates in Mains & Interview round.

IAS Preliminary Exam 2022

The preliminary exam of IAS Exam is scheduled to be conducted on June 5, 2022. There are two compulsory papers in Preliminary Exam, Paper I (General Studies) and Paper-II (Civil Services Aptitude Test). The preliminary exam is held for two hours and total marks for the same are 200 marks for each paper. IAS Question Paper of preliminary exam is set in both English and Hindi language.

The criterion of evaluation in preliminary examination to determine cutoff will be on the basis of minimum qualifying marks of 33 % in General Studies Paper-II of Preliminary Examination and total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of Preliminary Examination.

IAS Prelims Exam Pattern

Exam Duration 2 hours (extra time of 20 minutes for blind candidates) for each paper.

  • Paper I- 80 questions
  • Paper-II- 100 questions

Negative marking 1/3rd of the marks will be deducted for each wrong answer

UPSC IAS Main 2022 Exam Pattern

Test Duration Each paper will be of 3 hours duration
Total Marks Maximum of 1750 marks
Types of Questions Conventional essay type questions
Marking scheme 250 marks each for Paper I- Paper VII and 275 marks for Interview
Language Hindi and English

IAS Interview Round

The toughest round among the UPSC selection process stages is Personality Test/ Interview. There is no syllabus or pattern to prepare for this round. Hence, it puts more pressure to a candidate. The total marks of interview round is 275 marks. UPSC has not announced any minimum qualifying marks for interview round

Union Public Services Commission will judge candidates on the basis of several factors including mental alertness, clear and logical exposition, critical powers of assimilation, the balance of judgment, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity and more.

Final IAS 2022 Merit List

UPSC will prepare the final merit list based on the marks obtained in the IAS main written exam and personality test. On the rasis of the rank and marks obtained in the final UPSC result, a suitable post in the listed services will be awarded. Union Public Service Commission conducts Civil Services Exam, for recruitment to various posts of All India Services such as I.A.S, I.P.S, I.F.S, I.R.S, and other Group A and Group B services.
