How to enter a GD when others are speaking?

The MBA admission process is a 03 stage process that includes Written Exam, Group discussion, and Personal Interview. Among all the trickiest stage is Group discussion, which is conducted to select a socially suitable candidate among the knowledgeable candidates. Through this round, the attitudinal and behavioural answers of the candidates will be evaluated. Candidates who attain the minimum cut off marks in the written examination will be called to appear in the GD Round. In this round, small groups are formed to discuss their point of views on a random topic, provided by the panel. The topic can be on the recent trending issues or prominent problems of the society like women security, feminism, and more. The main intention to conduct the round is to check whether you are the suitable candidate for the institute or not. Hence, you will receive marks on the basis of your presentation, the way of communication, attitude, and more.

How to enter a GD when others are speaking?

The most confusing thing that makes students worried is, how to enter in GD when others are stating their point. Well, this is the trickiest question because when someone is speaking; it is simply not good to interrupt. This will obviously give you minus points. And if you won’t that may be you will lose the GD round. So, what to do in this situation is asked by almost every aspirant who is preparing for the first time. In this case, we suggest to learn, how to mould the things in your favor, just identify the low time when conversation is slow and follow the mentioned Group discussion tips

  • Firstly, never interrupt in midway, let the other person complete the point.
  • Secondly, instead of using “But”, “Excuse me”, say “I agree with your point and like to add more” or if you don’t agree to say, “I appreciate your thoughts, however,”
  • Don’t show that you are intentionally disturbing them just to enter the GD, be polite
  • Avoid taking too much time for follow-up questions
  • Don’t assume or provide fake details as another person may ask cross-questions
  • Don’t let the participant speak for a long span of time just because you lack substantial details

Understand that group discussion is not an activity where one win and other lose, it’s just a way to know how people interact in a group where every person has their own thoughts and view. The only way to ace it is by staying calm and composed.
